Which content areas are assessed on the ACT and the SAT?
The ACT consists of four subtests: English (punctuation, usage, rhetorical skills), Math (pre-algebra, geometry, algebra, basic trigonometry), Reading (comprehension and speed), and Science (tables, graphs, logical reasoning). There is also an optional Writing subtest (essay). The SAT consists of three subtests: Critical Reading (comprehension and vocabulary), Math (pre-algebra, geometry, algebra, basic trigonometry), and Writing (punctuation, usage, rhetorical skills, essay). The essay portion on the SAT is mandatory.
